Preschool and Early Childhood

Silvis School District 34 offers two preschool programs:
  1.  Special Education Preschool (ECE) classes for children with identified disabilities that require specialized instruction, small classroom settings, and intensive services.
  2. The Hand in Hand (HIH) Preschool program, an at-risk preschool program for children who meet criteria for being at-risk for poor school performance.

The HIH program is a grant funded preschool program that serves 50 students,  ages 3-5, who have been identified through a preschool screening as being significantly at-risk for school failure.  The HIH program provides a half-day, 5 days per week, a preschool program with class sizes of no more than 20 students per class, with an experienced, certified preschool teacher and an experienced, certified teaching assistant.    Once the program is full, children who qualify are put on a waiting list according to need.

Screenings for the HIH program are held in March, May, and July in Silvis School District.  Throughout the rest of the school year, screenings take place throughout the community.   Please contact the Miss Katie Siedschlag or Mrs. Gail Staples at 792-0639 extension 190, for more information regarding preschool screening or our programs.

Please call early as appointments are limited and quickly fill.
